Record high temperatures and clear skies turned out to be a winning combination for many exhibitors at the Dogwood Donkey Show which was held at the Agri-Fair in Abbotsford, B.C.
August 1 – August 2, 2014. The show attracted an excellent field of exhibitors with 13 adults, 20
donkeys and 15 youth participating.  The highlights of the show were the youth classes which included Showmanship, In Hand Trail, Musical Sacks and the very popular Egg Stomp game. Crowds of spectators shared lots of laughs, a few happy tears and many words of encouragement.  Six of our new young drivers took the reins and demonstrated to the enthusiastic crowd of spectators how much fun it is drive a donkey.
The costume class was also a huge crowd pleaser as the kids wowed a full house of spectators with their unique costumes and imagination.
It was such a wonderful opportunity for the kids to build their confidence, trust and make new friends.
There was also a full slate of adult classes offered including Halter, Showmanship, In Hand Trail,
Gambler's Choice, Coon Jumping, Pleasure Driving and Reinsmanship.
Our Judges John Dargel and Margo Hepner-Hart were very well received and appreciated.
A donkeys "song" may not fall melodically on a human's ears but there were plenty of concerts being given to the crowds of people who strolled the stall area and were fascinated by the donkeys
sweet nature and temperament. Based on their questions we know there is still much more to share about our donkeys.
Hearing the positive comments from the fans and exhibitors was very pleasing and gave us an indication that we are moving in the right direction with this event.
The success of the show was due to the substantial efforts and contribution of our volunteers and sponsors. The Dogwood Donkey Show committee would like to thank Ulli Dargel, John Dargel,
Marcel Sward and Rosalie Turcotte for all their hard work and commitment to the show. We would also like to personally “thank” each and every sponsor for their generosity and support of our efforts to promote our long eared friends.
The team work, commitment and good humour displayed by all was what made the show such a
galloping success.

The Dogwood Donkey Show  was held at the Agri-Fair in Abbotsford B.C.from July 29th - July 31st.  Once again our long eared friends made quite a showing and the only words that come to mind to describe the huge success of the show is WOW.  Our  theme for this years show was fun and from the exciting moment that the trailers rolled in to the fairgrounds to the sad moment that the trailers rolled out everyone seemed to enjoy a fun filled weekend renewing old acquaintances, making new friends, catching up on donkey stories and eating greasy fair food.
Our new changes this year of only offering three divisions,  1st Year, Showing, All Long Ears and Youth were well received and attracted 10 new donkeys and 9 new youth participants.

The highlight of the show was the youth classes which captivated the crowds of spectators who shared lots of laughs, a few happy tears and many words of encouragement.  It was such a wonderful opportunity for the kids to build their confidence, trust and make new donkey friends.
Our Judge, Mr. Lewis McKim's expertise was very much welcomed and his kind words to each individual youth in the showmanship class was a heartwarming moment. He fit in very
well to our fun theme as he attempted to hold back his laughter while judging the Youth Egg Stomp game.  In the game the donkey must break an egg with any hoof but some of the kids strategy and determination was quite comical.
The costume class was another crowd pleaser as spectators applauded continuously as the donkeys strutted their stuff.  The work and effort that went into all of the costumes made it far to difficult a task for the judge to pick a winner so everyone was declared a winner and received a 1st place ribbon.
Our 6 donkey drill team  The Long Ears Trotters performed a lively routine to the music of Glen Miller.  The crowd loved it and the donkeys seemed to enjoy performing for them ......................... watch out R.C.M.P. Musical Ride, here we come!!
Many donkey fans strolled the stall area and were fascinated by the donkeys sweet nature and temperament.  Based on their questions we know there is still much more to share  about our donkeys.
In addition to a full slate of classes, exhibitors enjoyed a taste of Margaret Stewart's warm hospitality at our presentation ceremony.  It was a time to reflect with fellow competitors, watch the excitement on the kids faces as they all received a gift and of course eat some more scrumptious food!

The Dogwood Donkey Show committee consisting of Ulli Dargel, John Dargel, Margaret Stewart, Pat Strang, Helen Howell and Catherine Olson would like to thank the many who donated their time, sponsorship, expertise, organizational skills and good humour.
A special thanks to Marcel Sward who worked so hard over the three day event and never seemed to tire of the busy schedule.   The team work, commitment and good humour displayed by all was what made the show such a galloping success.

High temperatures and clear skies turned out to be a winning combination for many exhibitors at the Dogwood Donkey Show held at the Abbotsford Exhibition Grounds in Abbotsford, B.C.  from July 30th - August 1st.
There were classes for all ages and levels to enjoy which included divisions for registered Miniature donkeys as well as classes for over sized and standard donkeys. Trudy Leishman
organized several donkey demonstrations which  showcased the many activities that we enjoy with our donkeys. Trudy spent many hours preparing the well received demos and never seemed to tire of the busy schedule. Thanks Trudy for all your hard work!
A donkeys "song" may not fall melodically on a human's ears but there were plenty of concerts being given to the crowds of people who visited the barns.
Many new "fans" strolled the stall area  to get a glimpse of these
amazing animals and were fascinated by their lovely nature.  Based on there many questions we know there is still much to share about our donkeys.
In addition to a full slate of classes, exhibitors enjoyed warm friendships at our presentation ceremony.  It was a time to
reflect with fellow competitors and everyone was presented with a  gift as a token of our appreciation of their support. Thanks to Margaret for her endless hours of hard work and for being the  glue that kept everything together.  Her never ending hospitality made sure we were well fed and stayed hydrated as the temperatures continued to soar.
Hearing positive comments from the exhibitors and fans was very pleasing and gives us an indication that we're moving in the right direction with this event. The show continues to grow and we want to thank everyone who participated and worked so hard to help make it all happen.

The Dogwood Donkey Show was held at the Abbotsford Exhibition Grounds in Abbotsford B.C. from July 31, 2008 - August 2, 2008.  There was a large attendance of spectators every time that the donkeys performed and we were very well received.  We also had a demonstration during the evening performance of the Country Classic Horse Show, which was organized by Trudy Leishman. Trudy drove the very popular standard jennet Sarah in a dressage freestyle test with Virginia Allen and her pair of miniature donkeys.  The test was set to music and was enjoyed by the participants and the audience.  There was an appearance by Jenna and Mitchell Howell and their donkey Guido dressed up very realistically as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey.  Deb Stelz with Little Red Man and Pat Strang with WV Mystic Bean demonstrated packing and jumping.  The audience was invited to see the donkeys being shown the next day and to visit them in the barn which many did over the next few days.  Sue Jenner had a booth set up in the barn area and answered questions and handed out information on donkeys and mules.
